Start a conversation
We spend more than four hours a day on our smartphones—texting, emailing, watching cat videos, you name it. Sure, we’re all busy these days, but with a phone in our hands so often, how are we so bad at connecting with people?
Two of Tony Malik’s goals for 2018 seem to go hand in hand—staying off of his phone and doing a better job keeping in touch with friends. Here’s our challenge to you and ourselves this week:
Meet up with a long-lost friend: Grab lunch or a beer with a friend you haven’t caught up with in a while.
- Strike up a conversation with a stranger: Everyone has that one person they cross paths with daily on the train or at Starbucks. This time, why not take a moment to say hi?
Need to brush up on IRL conversational skills? Here’s a great TED Talk on the art of communicating.
If we must insist on hanging on to the phones, let’s use it to call our grandma or mom more often. It will make her day.
