closerlook wins Heart Award at 24th annual Manny Awards

The editors of Med Ad News conferred a special honor on closerlook at this year's Manny Awards gala in New York, naming the agency winner of the prestigious Heart Award for the company's social responsibility and commitment to local and global philanthropy.
The centerpiece of closerlook's good-citizenship activities is Bigger Future, a nonprofit leadership and business training program led by agency CEO David Ormesher.

Through mentoring relationships with seasoned U.S. business executives, intensive quarterly planning workshops and an investment fund for high-promise enterprises, Bigger Future is helping 75 entrepreneurs in the East African country of Rwanda develop profitable companies and improve conditions within their nation.
 
"As an entrepreneurial agency that specializes in relationship marketing, it's no surprise that our philanthropic efforts also focus on relationships and entrepreneurism," Ormesher notes. "Bigger Future builds relationships between successful entrepreneurs in the United States and high-potential entrepreneurs in Rwanda because entrepreneurs are the most powerful change agent in an emerging economy."
 
In 1994, roughly 20 percent of Rwandans were massacred in an ethnic genocide that devastated the country. Launched in 2008, Bigger Future is helping Rwandan businesses make significant contributions to a growing economy, serving as a model that Ormesher believes could be successfully replicated in other countries.

 The Heart Award also recognizes closerlook's local philanthropic activities. In its hometown of Chicago, the agency participates each year in Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon [Links to: http://www.chicagocares.org/CCI_about_SAT], the city's largest day of community service. In early June, closerlook staff joined more than 6,000 other volunteers to help clean and spruce up the learning environments for more than 18,000 local school children. Agency employees also regularly participate in fund-raising activities for various medical research initiatives.

 Most recently closerlook sponsored the Firefly Ball [Link: http://www.otscjb.org/#!fireflyball/c1aoa], helping send the children of the Off the Street Club to summer camp and away from violent streets of Chicago.

 "The Heart Award is a huge honor for us because doing good deeds and treating people well are core to our corporate values and culture," Ormesher says. "We thank the editors of Med Ad News for their recognition and we commend them for validating, through the Heart Award, that corporations should be measured not just by financial performance, but by their social responsibility as well."
 
By coincidence, Ormesher was in Rwanda leading a Bigger Future workshop when this year's Manny Awards gala took place. Jon Sawyer, closerlook Principal, accepted the Heart Award trophy on the agency's behalf, along with Rick Rubenfaer, Director of Business Development, and Liz Mitchell, Marketing Manager. The Heart Award carries a $3,000 cash contribution to a cause of the winner's choosing, which closerlook donated to Bigger Future.
